opening the day
I am at first overwhelmed
by the empty flood
waving deeply
the past washes by
and I am filled with the sadness
of that long ago child
but hope rising with the day
and present blessing
washing gently over the pain
my heart is soothed
and my heart is eased
and I gather up past and present
and leave them in your love
and recall the promises made
and the promises redeemed
and know that the time is coming
when tears will be no more
and standing beneath
the rainbow promise of your love
all will be revealed
and my laughing heart
will sing with the joy
that you planted deep
before ever pain was born
and the soft kaleidoscope of colour
will wash over me
and all pain will be gone
and I will dance in your arms of love
forevermore
