and the roller coaster coasting on
heedless of my breath
I hang on tightly
until the uphill struggle
crowned for a fleeting moment
by a blazing peak of glory
becomes once more
the pell mell descent
into the abyss
and I hang on tighter still
and hope that today is not the day
when I will finally be tossed
into the depths beneath
and my teeth rattling
and my bones protesting
and my hands hanging on
ever more tightly
I remember that this is a day
to rejoice and be glad
and I laugh
and I am glad
and the roller coaster
coasting on with heedless abandon
and me hanging on tighter still
there is nothing to be done
but trust the driver
and begin to enjoy
the ride
